Children's Christmas Capsule Wardrobe

The more I learn about sustainable fashion, the more I'm intrigued with capsule wardrobes. I'm a practical person and the idea of having fewer items of clothing hanging around really resonates with me. And if I have fewer items, then I can afford to purchase better quality and better produced items which is a win all around.

Christmas is one of those times of year that I adore, but has always struck me as a little strange. We have holiday dinners and visits and parties, as kids are supposed to have 'special' outfits to wear. But these are basically one time use (or maybe a few if you are lucky). And that just seems so impractical and wasteful.

As an adult, my saving grace is that I have a few quality pieces in my wardrobe that I can pull out for special events. But the kids? Well, they've grown since last year (and in one case, arrived on the outside since last year!) and so they don't have any 'dress' clothes that fit.

As I've been pulling together ideas for Christmas outfits for our holiday countdown on Instagram and Facebook I've been mindful of the items I've picked. Here are some of the things that I've been thinking about:

• Will kids want to wear them? Are they soft fabrics and comfy to wear?
• Are the outfits fun?
• Can items be mixed and matched to get more bang for your buck?
• Can you add a few neutrals or other colours to help extend past the holiday feel?
